With The Minneapolis Bridge Collapse, Do You Believe The Midwest Is Safe From A Major Quake?
With the bridge collapse in Minneapolis, can one wonder the safety of the Midwest, if she were to experience another major quake? Remember that one of the strongest quakes to hit the U.S. mainland was the series of New Madrid Earthquakes (1811-1812 in the Southwest corner of Missouri), where a few of them registered over 8+ on the Richter scale.
It is said that there is over a 50% chance that a 6+ magnitude quake will hit Southwest Missouri by 2040. From 1811 to present day, there has been major development and population explosion west of the Mississippi River. One of the major obstacles, liabilities facing the Midwest is her reliance on unreinforced masonry. That will truly up the death tolls in cities like Memphis and St. Louis, if such a quake were to take place.
Check out the graphic of the U.S. vs. the 1994 Northridge Earthquake vs. the 1895 Charleston, MO, earthquake that traveled a lot longer ways, damage and earthfelt wise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:NMSZ_…

For Guys Only. What Would You Do If Theres An Earthquake And U Are In An Elevator With A Girl Beside You?
try to make her shut up to save oxygen.
I heard china receive many positive statements from the western median and organization like Red Cross from doing a good job relieve disaster rescue and most open to media ever at its goverment, does the image of china improve?
For a strong earthquake: I would go outside, as to prevent being struck by anything that may fall off the walls inside a building or to prevent being crushed by the building if it were to collapse. After the quake, I would check to see if my neighbors and family were alright.
For a typhoon: I would board up my windows to prevent debris from flying in, and stock up on non-perishables, water, and batteries. Also, it’d be best to move all electronics off of the ground (on the 1st floor) and move up to the second floor of the house, especially if I were in a flood plain.
I slept through another quake. Biggest in the UK for 25 years apparently.
